The skies are gray and threatening as we set off on our way to Argentina. Soon we have reached and passed the Chilean part of the border and then we get surprised by the big stretch of no-mans land – 44 km s across an alpine pass with snow falling and lots of the cold whit stuff all the way around – so when we finally reach the second half of the frontier we are wet and frozen to the bones. I am as usual quite excited and a bit apprehensive when reaching a new country especially since we...

So now we are in Chile ... it took almost 24 hours to get here and technically we actually arrive prior to departure from Sydney ... The flight was an ordeal ... after a sleepless night in Christchurch due to the fear of not hearing the mobile phone alarm clock and getting absolutely peed off because of the NZ customs stealing our camping stove we then arrive in Sydney where we are imprisoned in the transit area for 5 hours with no smoking room (I know that the Non smoking fraction of you feels...

South Island Well I was ever so wound up before we got onto the ferry and then the wind has died down and we had such a quiet and calm crossing - that's the reason why I'm a pessimist - you can actually only be pleasantly surprised .... Unfortunately, however, it has already gone dark and we have no idea where to head for. Well, it’s only today we don’t have a plan after that we know where we want to go: in the direction of Abel Tasman National Park, but that is tomorrow…. Not a chance of...

We arrive in Christchurch at 1.10 am have a good laugh coming off the plane, there are posters of sheep and pastures all the way inside and instead of annoying piped music we are greeted with lots of coming from the speakers – naturally I think of all the Kiwi and sheep jokes, we were told in OZ (similar to the Welshman/sheep jokes) Customs are nowhere near as bad as we thought they would be and I think they are just as tired as we are. I have filled in the arrival cards cautiously and ticked...

After 2 nights in Nimbin, the hippie capital of Australia, we wander on - it is more hippie circus with hemp leaves on each shop sign and it looks like we are pretty much the only ones here who were not looking for marijuana – one only needs to look at the prices of tobacco to realize that those kinds of smoke wares would be well outside our budget ...... We are now heading for Byron Bay, the most easterly point of Australia so we have to pay it a visit. Now we can say we were in the...

At 7 am we land in Melbourne and take the direct route out of it. Without looking much right or left, we head through the city rush hour. The first Aldi is ours – the ferry has cost us an arm and at least one leg so we are in dire need of pampering the budget. In the parking lot we find a relatively fast internet connection, so we call Heinz, who lives not too far away in Venus Bay. We met Heinz at a camp on the Great Alpine Road - that was almost 3months ago and he invited us to visit him at...

06.01. to 23.02.2015 After almost 3 weeks at Paul and Kerry’s place we have finally updated our blog a fair bit, sorted an awful lot on our bike (but still not everything), completed our paperwork as much as possible, and now the time has come that we are on our way to explore a little more of this island - on our own and even though my back has been pleased to finally get some time in a bed, we are also lookin forward to be in the nature and in our tent too – after such a long time it does...

Tasmania 12.18.2014 until the 6. of Jan 2015 I hate ships ... the rolling about and the prospect of a long voyage across Bass Strait from Melbourne to Devonport also brings back memories of Scottish ferries where I spent hours heaving over the ceramic bowl (or praying to god on the big white telephone), because this route has a reputation for being extremely rough at times. Since we had to spend so much for the crossing of our motorcycle already we try to save on ours, So we now sit on rather...

Australia Part two Perth to Melbourne 03.11.-18.12.2014 Perth is the first Place we arrive at actually having a home to go to – a positive couch surfing request. We have a bag full of jobs to be done here – the easiest thing is to collect our new sleeping mats from exped and to find spares for our bike get new tires cause these really are getting shot at now (they are on our bike since we left home) and then we want to try and sort our visa extensions too – so you see – ther is lots to...

23.09. bis 01.11 2014 From Darwin to Perth When we see the coast line of Australia looking out of the window of the plane, I feel excited and uneasy at the same time. We have quite a few things in our luggage of which I'm not sure if they will pass the hygiene inspection. We have received so many warnings as regards the rules and the consequences if you make false statements that we simply answer each question in the questionnaire we have to fill in with a yes: Do you have more than the allowed...
